Three MIHL Teams Advance to Semifinals!

Catholic Central (23-3-2) and Grosse Pointe North (19-8-1) both continued their quest for the MHSAA Division I Finals as they scored solid wins in the Quarterfinals. The Shamrocks blanked South Lyon 4 – 0 and the Norsemen outscored two time defending champion Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 4 – 1. Ben Scarfone led Grosse Pointe North (two goals and one assist) and Eric Rohrkemper made 24 saves for the win. Brent Darnell led CC and Zach Cisek made 24 saves for his third playoff shutout.

Cranbrook Kingswood (19-7-2) advanced to the Division III Semifinals by defeating Monroe St. Mary’s Catholic Central 3 – 2 in overtime. After falling behind 2 – 0 early in the 3rd period, the Cranes clawed their way back into the game with two powerplay goals to tie the score with 2:25 on the clock. That set the stage for Patrick Brown’s overtime winner 2:09 into the period.

Catholic Central will face Marquette on Friday and Grosse Pointe North will go against Howell in the other Division I Semifinal game. All four teams competed in the MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase in February.

Cranbrook will play Flint Powers in one of the Division III Semifinal games – both also played in the MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase.

In Division II Semifinals, the matchups will be Saginaw Heritage vs Trenton and Novi vs Muskegon Mona Shores, the latter three all played in the MIHL Prep Hockey Showcase.
